IFCC joins Sant Antoni Town Hall to promote healthy lifestyles on World No Tobacco Day

This morning, the association set up an information stand on the Paseo de ses Fonts to raise awareness about the harmful effects of smoking and vaping

The Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer Association (IFCC) installed an information stand this morning to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and vaping, in an event promoted by the Sant Antoni de Portmany Town Hall for World No Tobacco Day, celebrated today, 31 May.

This initiative, aimed at “promoting healthy lifestyles among the citizens of the municipality,” according to the Town Hall, began at 10:00 am with a one and a half hour health walk that ended at the Paseo de ses Fonts.

Following this, a group of IFCC volunteers distributed informative leaflets among visitors and residents of the municipality to “prevent smoking, debunk the perceived safety of vaping and inform about the potential short- and long-term effects on both health and the environment.” “Our goal is not to scare people about the effects of vaping, but to raise awareness, inform, and impact young people so they do not think it is harmless,” highlighted Xaquelina Perry, president of the IFCC, an association that since last month has been organising a series of talks titled ‘Myths and truths about vaping’ for students in various secondary schools in Ibiza.

During this event, the volunteers also emphasised the need for the population to undergo colon cancer screening to prevent this disease, which affects “one in four people worldwide.”

“The annual celebration of this day, promoted by the World Health Organization, is a crucial opportunity to protect future generations and highlight the health dangers posed by tobacco and vaping,” said Jorge Nacher, Councillor for Youth, Social Welfare, Equality, and Citizen Participation at the Sant Antoni de Portmany Town Hall.

The Town Hall pointed out that the activities carried out during this event represent a joint effort to “improve the quality of life of the Ibizan population and reduce the prevalence of smoking,” considered by the health community to be the leading preventable epidemic.
